Getting to know Shelley

You do not have to figure out the first step alone.

Making that first call for counseling can feel vulnerable. You may know something needs to change without knowing exactly what kind of support you need, which counselor might be the best fit, or even how to put words to what you have been experiencing. You may wonder whether the person who answers will understand just how much courage it took to reach out. Shelley is often the first person you will speak with when you contact Pinnacle and the person who greets you when you walk through the door. She listens to what is bringing you to counseling, answers questions about the process, guides you through intake and scheduling, and helps connect you with a counselor who may be a good fit. Her goal is to make those first steps feel clear, personal, and manageable.

From the first phone call to the moment you arrive for your appointment, Shelley wants you to feel welcomed, heard, and cared for. One of the most meaningful parts of her work is hearing the relief in someone’s voice after they have been scheduled with a member of the counseling team and know what will happen next.

Before joining Pinnacle, Shelley spent decades working in corporate settings. Her path began to change when career counseling helped her recognize how naturally people had trusted her with their stories and turned to her during difficult moments. That realization led her to return to school and pursue psychology.

Shelley’s care for others has also been shaped by her experiences as a single mother, a long-term caregiver and advocate for her mother, and someone who understands church hurt. These parts of her story have deepened her sensitivity toward people who feel overwhelmed, unseen, or unsure whether they will be welcomed.

Although Shelley is not currently serving as a counselor, her growing knowledge of psychology and her genuine care for people shape the way she supports each person who contacts Pinnacle. She believes God cares deeply about every person’s story and that reaching out for help can be the beginning of something new.

Outside of work, Shelley enjoys reading, music, going to school, working with exchange students, taking road trips with her daughters while they sing at the top of their lungs, and sharing life with her church family.
