Getting to know Micah
Care that makes space for your story.
Life does not always go the way we hope it will. You may be trying to navigate a difficult relationship, make decisions about school or your career, understand who you are, or figure out where you belong. Anxiety, depression, trauma, or past experiences may be affecting how you see yourself and move through the world. You may know it would help to talk with someone, but still feel unsure about counseling or whether you will truly be understood.
Micah comes to this work with both professional training and a lifelong desire to help others. As a child, he imagined becoming a doctor, firefighter, or police officer because those were the ways he understood helping people. At 20, a conversation with a career counselor helped him recognize that counseling could bring together his desire to listen, connect with people, and help them develop skills for navigating difficult situations.
As a biracial counselor who grew up in a diverse community, Micah understands that culture, family, community, and societal experiences all shape how people see themselves and relate to the world around them. He has a particular passion for working with racial trauma and identity, including experiences within the Black community. He also understands that stigma, family expectations, or past experiences may make it difficult for someone to reach out for counseling. Micah often works with young adults and adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and recovery concerns, relationship challenges, career questions, racial and cultural identity concerns, or major changes in their lives. Some people come to him because they feel stuck or uncertain about what comes next. Others are trying to better understand who they are, what they want, and how they want to move forward.
Micah does not believe counseling is about him telling you what to do. He sees you as the person who knows your life best, and he wants to understand what things have been like from your point of view. He uses approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you notice patterns, develop useful skills, and find steps that feel realistic for your life.
When you sit with Micah, you can expect him to be calm, easygoing, authentic, and approachable. He wants counseling to feel like a place where you can show up as yourself without worrying that you will be judged or misunderstood. He will listen, take your experiences seriously, and treat you with honor, dignity, and respect. His hope is that you leave feeling heard, validated, and more aware of your worth.
If faith is part of your life, Micah welcomes it into the conversation. If it is not, that is welcome too. He wants every client to know that their culture, identity, values, and beliefs will be approached with curiosity and respect.
Outside the counseling room, Micah enjoys writing and listening to music, collecting vinyl records, weightlifting, playing basketball and soccer, skating, traveling, and reading books, comics, and manga.
