Getting to know Kirby
Care that makes space for your story.
Some seasons leave you unsure of who you are or how to find your way forward. Anxiety, depression, grief, shame, chronic illness, or relationship pain may have changed how you see yourself and the world around you. You may also be wrestling with questions about faith, identity, or whether hope is still possible.
Kirby creates a space where you do not have to arrive with everything figured out. You can be honest about what hurts, ask difficult questions, and begin exploring your story without judgment or pressure to move faster than you are ready.
Kirby works with teens and adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, chronic illness, addiction and recovery, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, shame, and questions surrounding identity or faith. He has a particular heart for people who feel disoriented, disconnected from themselves, or caught in patterns they do not fully understand.
His approach to counseling is relational, curious, and honest. Kirby helps clients explore their dignity, fears, desires, strengths, relationships, and the ways they have learned to move through the world. He believes we are healthiest when we learn to hold the wonder and frailty of ourselves in tension, making room to risk well, grieve well, protest well, and delight well.
Clients can expect Kirby to be kind, open-minded, curious, and honest. He listens carefully and asks meaningful questions without rushing to provide easy answers. His hope is that clients feel genuinely seen and understood while also being invited to look more deeply at themselves, their relationships, and the possibility of change.
Kirby’s personal experiences with chronic illness, anxiety, depression, and questions of faith have shaped the way he cares for others. He understands how disorienting difficult seasons can be and believes hope remains possible, even when it is difficult to see.
Kirby draws from psychodynamic, attachment-based, narrative, cognitive, and trauma-informed approaches. He thoughtfully integrates different methods based on the needs and experiences of the person sitting across from him.
For those whose faith is an important part of their story, Kirby welcomes conversations about God, belief, doubt, spiritual pain, and questions that do not have simple answers. He also welcomes clients from all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs.
Outside the counseling room, Kirby enjoys music, reading, food adventures, hiking, skateboarding, and spending time with his wife and sons.
Kirby provides in-person counseling in Winter Park, FL, serving the Greater Orlando area, as well as secure online counseling throughout Florida. If Kirby sounds like someone you might feel comfortable sitting with, we invite you to schedule a consultation or appointment.
